Good day all.

I poked around a few sites for battery cables and found standard 4 - 6 and 8' cables. I want to run the cable from my engine to the inside console on my 1984 Montauk. Are these custom cables at this length? Using Joe's picture of his old Montauk as my guide, these cables are probably 16' long. If these are custom, what is the correct spec and where did you get them or the parts?

Pete, I have yet to find marrine grade duplex battery cable in lengths over 10 feet, so if you find a source, please let me know. In the alternative, Anchor sells individual, marine grade battery cable by the foot, and I think 4-gauge or lower is fine for a Montauk. If your steering cable is 18 feet, I and you run it parallel to that cable, I would buy at least 18 feet. You'll burn one foot just getting it out of the coweling. There's nothing worse than winding up short!

Excellent price for duplex wire (!!), but the lowest gauge is 6, but that be too little for a +/- 18 foot run. 4-gauge or even "thicker" 2-gauge would be better suited for this application.

I spent the good portion of this afternoon looking at this website:

And those are some darn NICE prices. Thanks for the tip!

I AM DOING THE SAME THING TO MY MONTAUK. I DID THIS WITH MY 21' MAKO LAST YEAR AND WAS FLOORED AT THE PRICE AT WEST MARINE. I NEEDED 1/0 CABLE AND THAT RAN 10-13 DOLLARS PER FOOT. I NEEDED ABOUT 40 FEET SO I FINALLY FOUND A SMALL LOCAL MECHANIC SHOP WHO SOLD IT TO ME FOR $2 PER FOOT AND FREE TERMINALS. HUGE SAVE.

ratherwhaling,
I agree. The prices are good there. They do have single battery wires, available in 2 and 4 guage. Is there some reason it would be better to find duplex wire somewhere else, rather than running a red and a black (both are available as single wires)
