Has anyone used or considered using HDPE (high-density plastic) to replace wood components such as cooler cleats, rod holders, etc...? No offense meant to traditionalists:) Check out this product. It is available in various thickness and sheet size. Plus it looks like it comes in tan.
Seaboard® HDPE for Boating
HDPE Seaboard® marine sheet is a high density polyethylene sheet formulated to meet the specific requirements of marine and other outdoor environments. In addition, special post-production treatment enhances its ability to withstand the effects of salt water, moisture and direct sunlight. CPG Seaboard® is manufactured as a continuous extrusion. It is not press laminated. Thus, it is unconditionally guaranteed not to delaminate during the service life of the end-product.

Though I have not used it on the whaler we use HDPE all the time in our shop. Great stuff. However, Make sure that the stuff you get for the boat is rated for HIGH UV exposure.

Its great for some things but not for seats unless there is a supporting structure underneath. Have you checked the price, its very expensive.

I replaced the entire interior of two c.1980s Montauks with King Starboard, and after 2/3 years of heavy use, it's the only thing that still looks good! BTW that includes a RPS replicas.

I re-did all of the wood on my sailboat with Starboard and am about to do the same to my 67' Nauset. Seats, trim, etc. Its not to expensive to buy pre-cut pieces from Lighthouse Shipwrights in Ft. Lauderdale. They quote per square foot and the price includes cutting to your size. Hope that helps.

correction....just tried to buy pieces from Lighthouse and they wont do smaller pieces anymore. Call Jill at C&K Manufacturing in Westlake, OH. There is a small service charge for orders under $100 but its worth it for pre-cut pieces pre rounded and beveled.
