Ive been doing some research on this engine and it seems the the "VRO" is a pump for 2stroke oil injection...My question is Is that true,is the pump separate from the engine and can you just use premixed gas and primer bulb???

Longbow,

I had the exact same motor on a boat I owned years ago in the Florida keys and it seemed to be a very reliable motor. The VRO worked great and I didn't have any issues at all with it.

If you want to read some forums concerning your engine, checck out www.boats.net and search for the Evinrude forums....somewhere in there they have talked about this subject.

Is the VRO pump mounted on the engine or is it external??? I cant find out wondering if someone might know.

It's on the engine in the same housing as the fuel pump, if you follow the fuel line in, it'll lead you right to it as will the oil line.

Like Cliff, we've had no issues at all with the VRO on an '86 Evinrude 175. Runs great every year on a ski boat.

If you pre-mix your fuel you need to disconnect the VRO.
