A story I read when I first bought my 15' Sport was about a older couple that lived in the Northwest on the coast. A storm was rolling in and the couple happened to see a commercial fishing boat dead in the water about 2 miles from shore. They were getting pounded by the wind and waves. The couple got into their 17' Montauk and fought through the waves and threw the fishing boat a tow line. They were able to tow the boat and crew to saftey to ride out the storm.

Your recollection is not quite accurate.
The story of the Klein family of Otter Bay, BC is recounted on page 5 of the 1981 Boston Whaler catalog.

Sorry Tom - That was almost 30 years ago when I read it. I had the correct coastline and it was a 17' Montauk wasn't it? What do you expect from a 62 year old with memory problems?

That would be an interesting read. Tom would you post a copy or a link to that story?

Way2Goofy,
We appreciate you bringing the story to our attention. At 43 years old, I have a difficult time remembering things that I read 30 years ago, I certainly understand that a 62 y/o would have similiar clarity issues too. Lol.
Thanks a lot and Welcome to Whaler Central shipmate!

I think the point is that a small Boston Whaler with a husband and wife aboard managed to tow a commercial fishing vessel safely back to the dock in adverse weather. Not so sure small details make a huge difference in pointing out that it was the little boat that could.
