I am about to install new rub rail on 17 Newport, it seems to really stiff any help
would be great. also what to use rivets or screws?

You can set it out in the sun as that has worked for some but i carefully used a heat gun.
get about 4 to 6 clamps and start at the transom. Using clamps I worked on 3ft sections at a time. When I got to the bow, going around the corner was kinda tricky, the hard pvc part of the rail would twist buckle and do many things other than conform to the boat. I used the heat gun and slowly worked it around the corner. The corners will be the most time consuming.
I used screws but that seems to be a whole debate on its on as to which is better.
I can't remember how I spaced the fasteners but you'll use plenty around the corners.
Mostly after you get started and get a rhythm going, it goes pretty smoothly.

Can anyone tell me what you did to get the bow cleat for the anchor line off the boat to install the new rub rail?? I can't get the screws in mine to move and I am begining to think that it may be bolted to a plate in the hull due to the stress from the anchor line. If so how would you get that off without cutting a hole in the hull?? HELP! Thanks.
I have an 18' Outrage and the bow cleat mounts over the rub rail.
