I have seen this mentioned here before and cant find it, so here we go again. Do I install primer bulb past separator (before engine) or between tank and filter? Thank you

Hi, between filter and engine.

I see you have a 17 Montauk. You shouldn't need one for portable tanks, and depending on your engine Mercury recommends against all but one that will offer less resistance than 2.5 in hg. The cheap one can restrict flow at hi rpms under hi fuel demands. You may already know this, just throwing it out there.

Thanx guys will mount in the am. I have avoided installing this thing but last year ethanol kicked my butt. Did the additive ,fresh gas etc.. and still water in the tank. If this doesn't do it I will have a Viking style send off. LOL. It is powered with a 99 Yamaha 90hp. Love the combo.

You'll get advice on locating the primer between the tank and filter and between the filter and engine. In general, the primer bulb should be positioned so its relatively vertical with the check valve at the top.

After the filter some would say helps keep the check valve free of debris. I believe Yamaha recommends between the tank and filter. I know of no compelling reason to favor one over the other. I mount mine for convenience and its below my rear deck between the tank and filter. Keeps it out of the damaging sun and its easy to reach though I've never needed it with my Etec.
