Has anyone had any experience with this motor? Any little idiosyncracies I should know about. I am looking at one for sale but am unfamiliar with them. Is there a specific site where I can get user input without a sales or mfg pitch, youknow like just plain objective assessments? Thanks in advance. Chris

The Johnson/Evinrude V-4's are perhaps one of the best engines produced. If the compression is good and the motor runs fine, for the right price, you can't go wrong.

I believe that the 100 hp commercial engine used the V6 gearcase and the gear ratio was diff. as well, I'm thinking 2:1 maybe?

Thanks I have done some research and concluded that it was a good engine but it is always better to hear from actual users. The motor is on a 63 Nauset that is supposed to be ,and looks to be, solid, dry and has only the usual cracking and checking. With trailer for 4K ..I just agreed to buy it so I guess i will find out. What the heck.... I now own two Whalers and had none a year ago....what's happening to me!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
