It's time for an engine change again and I just purchased a new Honda 4 stroke 150 for my original new '82 Outrage 18. Whaler replaced for free a '86 model hull because of a '82 defective hull. The old hull had a right side dent from the molding process and became an appearance issue only. The Dealer said he would exchange my 150 Johnson, bow rails, console and equipment for $1,000 on the '86 hull with a new '86 boat title. He also said he would give me a great deal on a new 140 Johnson to make the entire boat an '86 model except for the console etc. I went for it but had nothing but problems with the 140 Johnson. Bought a new Johnson 150 in '89 and then I bought a new '94 Ocean Pro 150.
With gas prices unstable I've stopped taking out the boat as much and now have two Ford Escape Hybrids to stop feeding big oil. The Honda 4 stroke seems to be the most fuel efficient outboards so I'm making another change in power for my baby. My question is, are there any downsides to the expensive Honda digital fuel econ gauges for my new 150 HP Honda. The engine and controls will be installed this next week so I need to tell them what I want Monday.

Looked like you went through a lot of engines at first on your boat. Hard to believe that you have problems with your Johnson 140, they were perhaps one of the best engines produced. I've had many Johnson/Evinrude engines and they were some of the best engines I've owned. The honda from what I've heard are good engines. I've heard of 4000 hrs from a Honda. I wish you better luck than what you've had in the past.
