Hello everyone, I recently purchased a 18' 1986 Boston Whaler that was used by the Navy. I know it sounds crazy but I still don't know what model it is! Anyone??

My big question is that there is a hole in the front bow" where the anchor goes?" the hole goes through the front bow part and out the hull. What is the purpous for this and is there a piece that is supposed to go there to plug it? I will take a picture of the hole in case no one understands what I'm talking about!! Did they use wood in these boats? Foam filled? Any info would be great......

Thanks and lookin forward to learning more about these boats!

tmack,

Welcome to Whaler Central.

The Armed Forces purchased boats from the Boston Whaler Commercial & Government Products Division.

From your photos, it would appear that you have a Guardian series...

The hole in the locker is a drain and generally has a removable plug. The thru-hull drains were generally made of 1 inch brass tubing during those years.
See this article on replacing the brass drain tubes:

Joe thanks for the info, it was nice to get a little info on these goverment boats. The boat was purchased from a Naval Yard Auction, Actual documents will be sent to me in a week or so. My winning bid was $2,500, motor was tested and running strong, compression was excellent.

My plans are to keep it the way it is, besides the added touches to make it a fishing machine.

Thanks again and I'm glad I found this site, Joe nice pics of your past boats and salmon, those guys must have pulled you around a bit!!!

In our 22' Guardian the area where the anchor locker is on an Outrage the Guardian has a metal bulk head for mounting a 50 cal. There is a beckson deck plate however there is not through hull.

Actually there are NO thru hulls at all. All of the lockers drain to the stern splash well.

This is the only picture I could find where you kind of see the front area. The round scuppers in the splash are where they drain.
