Hi,

Due to the operating conditions of my 15' sport, (shallow, muddy, sandy, eel grass, condition of the south shore of Long Island), my transducers get very beat up. I usually just replace the sonar units every few years (cost of doing business) with a new one. Everytime I go to mount another "Transducer" I must fill in holes with "Marine Tex", and move it over a bit to clear the pre-existing repaired holes.

My Question is: Can a small flat block of wood like "CCA treated lumber" be used, or a piece of mahogony "bottom coated", and perminantly put in place on the Hull w/ Marine Tex be used to mount the transducers ? This would be easier, as the holes would not have to be filled when adding another Depth finder unit, or would it just be a platform for Barnicles to hitch a ride ?

MW,

I use a piece of (tannish) starboard about 1/2" or 3/4" thick.

I drilled two holes in the piece of starboard and then two holes in the transom to mount the starboard. Now, you can mount as many transducers to this piece of starboard until you get too many holes. Then, just replace the starboard. No need to drill anymore holes in the transom as you just reuse the two holes that are already there. Of course, always use sealant in the two holes after changing out the starboard.
