folks,

would a short shaft kicker work ok if mounted to a movable plate on the transom? Or is it better to just look around further for a long shaft kicker?

Ed, a long shaft is better. I used a short shaft on my Outrage, and it worked but if it were choppy the prop would have come out of the water. I think a short shaft would put the powerhead too close to the water to work correctly.

Do you know anyone in Rockland selling a 6-8hp johnson or evinrude long shaft? I am getting ready for the striper run and would like to get aux power beforehand.

Ed,

I agree with HarleyFXDL...
The long shaft keeps the power head higher and no need for those knuckle busting, hard to get up and down, engine brackets.
Clamp and/or bolt the engine right on the transom is the best way and that is what Boston Whaler recommended.
Here is my prior Montauk with an 8hp Long Shaft Evinrude mounted directly on the transom. Some prefer the port side but it might depend on where you Stern Light is mounted. Mine light was on the port side so I put the engine on the starboard side.

Hi Ed,

I don't know of any 6-8 hp longshaft motors for sale. If I see one I will let you know. Funny, whenever i'm looking for either a LS or SS, the market seems to be flooded with the opposite of what I need.
