I have a 1989 13 Super Sport with a 40HP Evinrude installed with trim. I was wondering if someone has any experience with Stablizers (Whale Tails) on the engine?

If your boat is handling fine and not porpoising, then don't put one on. They may help a little in the porpoising department however they will knock a mph or two off your top end because of the drag.
Maybe take a look at moving some of your weight in your boat forward.
If you really want a stabilizer, take a look at the "Smart Tabs'.... They would be the route I would take if I had a problem.

You might need to raise your motor up a notch or two.

If your engine is set up correctly you cavitation plate should run on the surface or just above the surface. the stabilizer is mounted on top of the cavitation plate and it rides clear of the water. Mine is set up that way, and I have no loss of speed. The boat will plane as a lower speed, and will get up on plane much faster.

Perhaps Wahoo could return to the discussion and describe the problems he is having. I can't imagine a 13' SS with a 40 HP engine needing help to plane.

There should be no reason for adding any of these things if the motor is proberly mounted to the boat.
