Thread subject: Whaler Central - Boston Whaler Boat Information and Photos :: Bimini Sway - trouble brewing?

I tend to put my Bimini up with its boot still on but notice an alarming about of side to side sway at times.

This must be causing a lot of stress on the screws and especially the anchor points.

Has anyone and ideas or products to prevent this sway?

It needs some sort of foam bushing or rubber in there to stop the side to side. There is about an inch between the upright and the side railing.

Maybe, I should not as a matter of course have this thing up whilst underway. Any thoughts?

I'll hit the DIY stores but maybe someone has a good solution.

Thanks in advance.

Mark,

The Bimini MUST have diagonal straps secured to the console to prevent that sway which WILL cause damage if the swaying is left unchecked.

This is why Mills Canvas always includes those straps on their Flying Tops and Sun Tops.

Take a look at this company's products:

Depending on year and model, bimini tops installed at the factory have 2 straps that attach through holes in the boot to the center console. There are also clip on 3/4 round tubes of plastic usually grey in color that snap to the legs of the top providing protection between legs and the rail. Either of these options can be obtained from your dealer.

Looking at your personal page - I see that attaching the center straps to the console railing would be in the way. Why not just bungee the bimini supports to your side rails? http://whalercentral.com/images/ppima...G_0329.jpg

Mine is mounted on my Outrage in such a manner that it folds down out of the way across the stern just in front of the splash well. It would never survive unsupported in the air in the frequent bay chop I encounter.

I also rarely ever carry the Bimini with me unless its actually going to be used that day.
