Can somebody tell me what type and size screw was originally used to secure the 2 handles to the RPS back?

Thanks,

Larry,

Thank you.

I was looking to match the screw in the hardware store but the only matching one I could find was under the "metal screw" listing, and was not categorized as a wood screw. The screws I removed are oval headed, not flat headed. Does that make sense?

The original screws are not in bad shape, but the head is starting to show signs of beginning to strip, so while everything is apart I figured I would replace the hardware.

Perhaps I need to trust my eyes more when comparing nut, bolt and screw sizes.

Thanks again,

Dan,

Larry is correct about the screws being oval head #12 x 1".

When he says "self tapping" what he is describing is correctly known as a sheet metal screw. It has a constant diameter shank that is fully course-threaded.

Tom,

Thank you for the additional information.

I was able to find the screws easily enough at the hardware store, but was confused when they were labeled as metal screws, as opposed to wood screws.

True wood screws in stainless are quite hard to come by.
