I have a 1981 Newport and all the bow rail brackets are in horrible shape ( Were they stainless or chrome that year?) They might be after market because I cant see stainless looking this bad. Anyway tried a few links on here but they all look different than mine. Mine are round. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

If they are stainless you should be able to just polish them. I believe OEM was chrome plated brass.

If you decide to replace any of the bases or stanchions, you really should call CMI welding and fabrication. Fred Caldwell will know exactly what you need, has everything, and is a really nice guy to work with. He is located in Hingham, Mass. and the number is 781 740 1260. Replaced all of mine on the 15 back in 2004 and getting ready to order again for another 15. Freds I believe are chrome over brass and I believe what you have now.

Specialty Marine in Ca. may have them in 316 Stainless, along with aft light base and nut and even the Norman Pin for the bow. Depends which look you are going for. I enjoyed working with Fred. Still a few little guys out there. For what its worth. Good luck. zotcha.

Thank you all for your responses. You guys are a sponge of knowledge. Gonna restore this baby. Just hope I dont bite off more than I can chew ! They are probably chrome plated and I need the bow chock< sternlight , sampson post and bow eye etc ALL redone. Do I buy these items new or send them out to be refinished.

I think most of CMI's stuff is now stainless steel. Chrome plated brass is just so expensive to produce now.
