Thread subject: Whaler Central - Boston Whaler Boat Information and Photos :: 13' Whaler

I just picked up what was advertised as a 1970 Boston Whaler. It had a dead 50 hp Evinrude (not dead any more, just had some corroded wires, an easy fix). But boat was redone a few years ago. And here is the story the seller told me:
"While I was sanding the glass, I didn't realize there were numbers on the hull. The hull is a 1970. Then I lost the pink slip so the boat is now reregistered as a homemade boat."
No big deal to me as the boat is in great condition. So, it looks like a Whaler, it says Whaler on the side, but what is weird to me is there are two hatches in the bow not one. So, any ideas of what it is?

It might be a Del Quay Dory. Here's the best picture of a 13' I could find that sort of shows the bow lockers. The Del Quays were knock off's of the Whaler. Of course if we had pictures, it would certainly help with identifying the boat.

it is possible that someone did really good glass work and split the bow locker in half. What style splashwell does it have?

it also appears that someone may have installed the stern light into the side wall. The boat looks to be in great condition.

Looks like an old 13 foot Whaler. All the details are there. I suspect somebody modified the bow locker.
It also looks like a 20" shaft motor on that 15" transom. That is very bad.

I wouldn't use those cleats to tie off either. There is no wood on top of the gunnels. You'll rip them right off the boat.

I am sure I am not the only one who will have good suggestions, but here are mine:
Buy a 15" shaft length motor. Since you are overpowered now, get a nice 25-40 HP motor that does not weigh as much.
A jackplate would allow the motor you have to work, but I would avoid a setback bracket with a motor that size. You just want elevation, and as much as you can get.
