So thanks for all the input on engines for my 13, but I found a suitable replacement.

I found a good deal on a 1985 mercury 90hp inline tower of power! Of course it is attached to a really nice Montauk hull as well :)

Realized I really just wanted a bigger boat and there just so happened to be one for sale in the area for a reasonable price. Garage kept family owned 1986 Montauk with original engine still running strong.

Just need to refinish the teak and buff the gelcoat and she will look brand new. I hope to get a year or more out of the motor before thinking about repowering.

Amazing how much bigger and better riding the Montauk is than my 13.

Yes, good find!! at the right place at the right time. Whole differant ride isn't it. That "tower" ,as you put, it should last alot longer than that. Fuel filters and flushing after every use should last. Those 4s are heavy for the hp produced. Just can't beat the 2s power, really notice it when going on plane. Very good luck with her, enjoy!!

Everyone should own at least one inline 6 Merc (tower of power) so they know what a "real" outboard is like. I have been looking for one with a shortshaft for quite some time.

Heard a lot about the Merc inline 6, now I know what everyone says about how they like the sound. Just sounds like a nice motor, deep and smooth. Had the boat up to 37-38 mph, has a 19 pitch Quicksilver stainless prop, anyone know the gear ratio and WOT rpm on this motor?

Was worried had a hard time starting it, turned out to be just a loose connection on the starting solenoid. Seems in good shape all around, some corrosion on the shift linkage, steering arm and lower unit but not bad for an 1985. Looks like previous owner spent over a grand in april on new starter, water pump, and general service. missing screens on the carbs , need to find some.

Took it out yesterday in Tampa Bay, definitely a good test with 12 knot winds and 2-3 waves in the bay, where did this storm Ida come from anyway? Handled great light years better than the 13 in the chop.
