I have a 1993 21 foot Outrage that has it's original Evinrude 200 on it. Something is wrong with either my powerpack or some other ignition problem (hard to start with intermittent no spark at various plugs) so I am thinking about repowering instead of spending $$ on such an old motor even though it only has 420 hours on it.
With the current motor it will run 50 mph (WOT) with 4 people and full fuel (120 gal). The hull is rated for 300 HP (a lot were rigged with twin 150's).
I can't decide on 4 stroke/2 stroke or something like the ETECH. I've read lots of opinions, but I'd like to hear from some Whaler owners as to what they think or better yet what they did and how they have been pleased or not with their choice.
Any input is greatly appreciated.
Thanks-

DD, I have a 22 ft 88 outrage and have a 2006 225 ETEC mounted. I've really enjoyed the motor, and other then issues caused by owner ignorance, have had a flawless time with it. I would think that for a 21 ft outrage, that would be more then enough motor for you, and if you read some of the posts, the thoughts are a 200 will provide you the same speed top end, minus a little bit of lower end torque. However, there are plenty of arguments out there which are justified as some folks have there favorite motors, and I agree, there are some great motors you could also put on your Whaler. But my 22 and the ETEC are a fantastic match!! And, bottom line, is I can go top end, water smooth, no wind about 54 miles per hour which as my good friend and Whaler Mentor Joe will ask you. "Duf, how fast do you want to go"
Hope this helps!
