Hello,

I just purchased a modified 1971 16/17 foot Boston Whaler. Does anyone have any recommendations for a rear seat/storage solution? I want to have an extra seat with room underneath for fuel tanks and dual battery setup. Any help is appreciated. Thanks

Thanks I will check it out. I also wanted to see if there are any closed storage options -- either homemade or pre-built.

the1jonc,

we can build an enclosed stern seat as well. Mahogany or kingstarboard.

Mike,
Can you post or send a photo of the enclosed as well as the standard version in starboard or wood. I am considering a stern seat as well.

Thanks, Gary

Auburn,
you can check out the standard mahogany stern seat at www.NauticalLumber.com
I haven't built one with a storage locker below, but it wouldn't be a problem.

Mike

the1jonc,

I wouldn't even consider putting batteries or fuel in the rear of the boat.
You have to watch being stern heavy.

Most people put a battery in or under the console and the fuel under the driver seat to keep the majority of the weight near the center of boat...

Good point Joe..... the locker should be used more for general storage or a bait & tackle locker. What do you think Joe?

I just want a misc. storage area if possible under the seat. My battery is under the console. It would help your sales tremendously if you had a photo of the storage version in both wood and starboard. Just a part of doing business, and you can sell them once you have the photos on your web site.

Joe,

Thanks for the advice. I see what you mean about the stern weight.

I was also thinking about this for gear storage too. I thought I saw a member page with a seat/storage are across the stern but now I can't find it. Also interested in what Nautical Lumber has.

Thanks again for the advice.

I agree with storage.
Life vests and anything else light that will fit in there...

If I find any photos I will put a link to them here.

Im currently working on 2 storage concepts:
1. storage with built in backrest for 13 & 15 footers
It will slip right into space behind the rear thwart seat and attach with 4 screws.

2. "eastport" stern seat with hinged seat for storage.
It will look very much the same as the original. the seat will be solid mahogany insted of slats And will flip up for storage.

I'll try and have pics in the next couple of days.

Regards,
Mike
