I've replaced the jack, coupler,bearings, lights and safety chains and it already had new wheels and tires when I got it. I'm thinking of installing a new springs, hubs and axle assembly from Northern Tool. It only costs $169.00. I've loaded a picture of my trailer at the bottom of my Personal Page. What is the purpose of the 2x6 bolted to the frame? Is it to prevent the frame from racking? The frame seems to be in good shape and the trailer pulls fine. Is it okay to remove this wood or should I leave it?

Most definately a walk plank. I've never had the need for one. If you use it leave it.

I have something similar on my trailer installed by the previous owner. I don't drive my boat on I "hand crank" it on, the plank is great. I would also get rid of the black rollers. I replaced mine and it has helped with the black marks on the keel.

Thanks for the replies. I'm also going to change the rollers. Thanks for pointing out they should not be black ones. I didn't want to put any more money into the trailer if "the plank" was holding it together. It was definately installed by a previous owner because the plank is imperfectly ripped. I think I'd rather get my toes a little wet than try to balance on that thing! I imagine it gets slippery! RevengeFamily I have lots of pictures but I've filled my picture quota. I just finished priming the hull yesterday. I guess I'll get a project album going soon.

Labcab, just my 2 cents here. I'd keep the plank on there if it were me as it make retriving a boat on a shallow ramp much easier to do. If you're worried about traction, you can always put some non skid tape on the wood. Also, if you're rollers are still in good shape, use them. I've got black rollers on
my trailer and haven't had to deal with black marks at all.
