I just purchased a 2004 nantucket 190' with a merc 150. I will be launching out of Boston harbour how far offshore can I expect to reasonable go ? I understand the boat is unsinkable and it's up to the captain ect. but what is realistic.
I would appreciate any feed back on the boat aswell.

how far did you want to go? I would do a few tests to calculate your mileage but 150 miles round trip should be doable. I assume if your going off shore, you have all the safety equipment including dual VHF, and possibly radar and you always leave a float plan.

Please note the above assumes good weather and reasonably calm seas.

As for the boat, it's a good solid boat. If I had to own a post classic, I would have to choose between a 190 nantucket or an 26 Outrage. The one downsides for going offshore is no head.

This model is now called the 190 Outrage and is still in production...

I have the same 2004 boat, different engine....I have the 115-2 and I can do 240 miles on 60 gallons of gas...do I want to? probabaly not....

How far can you go...I seriously doubt you would want to be out 150 miles in a 19 footer when the weather changes, the wind starts blowing, and the sun goes down.

This 19 is by far the best for all kinds of weather, but I would say you will not like it out their in 4-5 footers with mixed seas, unless of course you like pain. The boat can take it, but you can't for long.

I have done 25-40 miles one way in a day and 40 back on a special trip but thats a long run for most people and you have to ask yourself if you want to drive your boat non-stop for a couple of hours..?

That would mean realisicly you would be driving your boat 4 hrs in one day not to mention trolling around, maybe fishing, ... thats a long day!

Safety is number one, add weather and you should use a dash of common sense to the equation....It may be unsinkable...but it can be capsized like most 19 footers...and your not unsinkable:)

Be safe!

About the boat, my "Das BOat" has been the best to me...I added a forward dodger, forward lounge, and mooring cover, some great electronics, and have never looked back...check out my site or profile:)

Thanks for all the input. This is my first boat and I plan on taking a safety coarse over the winter. The boat has vhf , gps and a fish finder.
Is a 19 footer big enough to take from boston to race point off p-town or would i be looking for troublel ?
