Thread subject: Whaler Central - Boston Whaler Boat Information and Photos :: Bimini height?

Hi I'm looking for feed back on bimini height.
How much head room makes for comfortable walking around?
The reason I ask is because my preference (4-6" headroom) ends up being a size that is not sold. A 46" top would give me less than an inch and a 60 would give me 14" Can a 60" bimini be cut down and then the ends reattached? Or does that mess up the geometry and just get ugly.
I could probably live with the 46" but a 50" would be nicer.
Thanks for your thoughts and experience.

Ok, I found better height selection online, but I would still like to know your thoughts on headroom. Up here in Canada the sun has a bit more angle to it than the southern states, so excessive height means less shade in the boat.

the instructions on mine from iboats.com said it could be cut down. Would be easy to do I think. I like it tall!

I'm curious Tig.

Your boat registration says 80E, same as mine. Where do you use your boat?

Thanks gigem.
cdnwhaler, I found my boat at Lake of Bays marina last Spring. They were awesome to deal with. I brought it home to the Quinte area.

HIi Tig,
I'm on the west side of Toronto but boat in north Georgian Bay. I didn't realize the boat registration 80E area went so far.

A friend in Cobourg recently purchased a 1991 25 Walk Around Whaler. He's trying to get me out your way and the 1,000 Islands. Perhaps we'll see you there sometime.

Sounds like the start of a Whaler get together. :)
Years back I boated in the 1000 islands. Very nice waters and a popular spot in the summer.
Georgian Bay, also beautiful as shown on your personal pages.

I never liked Bimini tops that were high enough to walk around under on any small boat. On my 13 footer my top gives me only about 3" clearance when sitting on the seat that is mounted 4 inches higher than original. I think it looks better, than the high ones, and gives you more shade. Yesterday when returning to the ramp, we ran into some really hard rain, and never got wet.
