Looking to upgrade in size from a 13' Sport to a 17' Montauk or 18' Outrage. Never ridden in a larger Whaler than my 13'. Moving to FL from Vegas. Interested in offshore fishing, but not necessarily blue water. Which hull at 17 or 18' would give me a better ride? Will buy used. Also, what year (s) were best for both models in terms of ride. Is there a tremendous difference at this size in the performance between the Montauk and Outrage?

Thanks

The Outrage 18' has a much better ride in rough conditions.

The Outrage 18 is actually 2 foot longer than the Montauk but the biggest difference comes in the disposition of weight. The Outrage has a 60 gallon gas tank in the hull and feels like a much bigger boat in rough water. I've owned both and feel much more comfortable in rough water in the Outrage. I also have two small kids and I feel much safer when I'm in the Outrage.
