I own a 1998 outrage 17 and like to grow up to a outrage 18 .Well I found a 1984 18 outrage that's for $8500 Can you tell me the problems that this boat has ?I know have to change the gas tank , It looks that it will clean up ok .It has a older 115 on it and sitting on a older trailer ,Is that hull be a wet ride compered to my 17 outrage 1998?I'm looking for a little more boat to go too the blue water, maybe you help me before I buy this big project Thank You Bob Zollo zbobbyzollo@yahoo.com

Bob,
Why do you feel you can't go out into the ocean in the boat you have? The 17 Outrage with the Accutrack hull is a fine boat and should be able to handle the blue water as well if not better than the classic 18 Outrage. The only thing the 18 Outrage gives you is higher max HP and a slightly larger internal tank (63 gal).

Bobby,

I have owned both boats at the same time.
There really isn't a whole lot of difference between the two.
The Classic 18' has a little more room inside but the 17' II has a slightly better ride in rough water due to the newer hull with the deeper V.

I haven't had time to respond to your emails but I would suggest going with a Classic 22' or a newer Outrage 20' or 21' from 1997 and up as you also like the newer hulls..

kamie,
Actually both the Outrage 18' Classic and the Outrage 17' II have the same max hp rating of 150hp.......

Thanks Joe, I didn't flip to the back cover. In that case, I would say save your 8k and direct it toward a new outboard.

Just for comparisions:

Classic Outrage 22' = 2050 pounds

1997 Outrage 17 = 1700 pounds
1997 Outrage 20 = 2200 pounds
1997 Outrage 21 = 2500 pounds

Obviously no matter what size you move up to, there is going to be more weight involved.

Bobby,

For some reason the weights and beam changed in the year 2000... Those 21's weigh in at 3000 pounds...

The 21' Outrage from 1993 to 1999 all weigh in at 2500 pounds.

I guess this leaves you with the 20' Outrage from 1996 to 1999 weighing in at 2200 pounds.
In 1996 they called this same model the Outrage 19' but this is the same boat...

I owned a 1999 17 Outrage, and now have a 1990 18 Outrage. I like the 18 a lot better. But for going into worse conditions, I'd want a 22 at least.
