Hello... Nice forum you folks have here!

I am going to redo my 13 this year. I know I'm going to paint it. I like the dark blue with tan insides.... Also like some of the pastels I've seen on big boats. Anybody with picts, love to see them.

What do you folks think of painted finish seats instead of varnish? Maybe the same color as the hull.. One of the things this boat does is rides to the beach, sandbars with sandy beach chairs, big wet sandy dogs, gets driven by weekend warriors etc. Been nice having a boat I don't freak out about if it gets a scratch or something... Enough other stuff to worry about.

I'd post a picture of the 'Dock Bumper' but you've seen plenty of 13 Sports

Hey that is really up to you, but, I think varnished wood shows less dings and scratches than solid painted wood.

I saw a 13' Fire Dept. "Rescue" boat in a Parade on Memorial day a few years back, the seat's were painted over. I inquired about it, and the "Chief" said :"From F.D's point of view, it's easier to maintain". I beach my 15' a LOT, same thing's go on board as your boat (sandy feet, Crabs, sneaker's, Clam shell's, "look Dad I found a dead Sea gull", etc.). I still "poly" the wood because, I like the way it look's beside's, what would "Spring time" be like without newly invented "Curse" word's being "Spewed" out of the garage when re-finishing the brightwork ?

yes Mike it is Awlgirp Fighting lady Yellow on the side and Oyster White top and bottom. What did you think of the red on Yellow? I bet you would have never thought it would have looked good.

There are a couple of duck boat whaler's around here. they look pretty good. I you really want to go back white just uses a good primer for the paint you decide on it should be fine

I was about to paint my 13footer Fighting Lady Yellow AwlGrip. The interior is painted AwlGrip Matterhorn white, which is a slightly grey white. At the last minute I decided to tone down the yellow abit with the white. I wish I hadn`t, it turned out a bit too creamy,

I did fighting lady yellow on my 17 as well and was really happy with how it turned out. You can see pics on my personal page as well.

I have a Montauk in my shop im restoring. As much as im an "original" type off guy. Im thinking of mixing it up a little. Light blue interior with the fighting lady yellow hull. Mahogany center console, piolet seat, & rear bench seat. hmmmmm. I'll have to give that more thought.
Mahogany looks great against light blue & soft yellow!

Fish,
As for color, I'm a traditionalist and used as close to original as I could. For the interior I much prefer the look of the wood. It not only sets off the appearance of the boat and makes me go WOW!, but I think it's easier to maintain. That's my penny and a half worth.

I have a 77 13 and I wanted it to look as original as possible. I filled and fared all teh cracks with claw glass (greenish color). Then we primed (545)both the hull and interior. Then we went with Greystone on the interior and eggshell on the hull. Real happy with the outcome.
