Has anyone taken a sea trial in a 190 Montauk, any comments good or bad about the boat.

We have one member who has a 190 Montauk and has a personal page here on WhalerCentral.

I have the 190 Montauk and use it regularly here on the West Coast for rockfishing. We've been out a few times when the ocean has been 'angry.' Overall, I've been very happy and never felt unsafe. Haven't taken a wave over the bow yet. Generally, we pick our days and avoid seas greater than 10'.

I sea trailed both the Montauk 190 and Dauntless 180 about a year ago. I ended up buying the Dauntless. For a few reasons, one was price, it was a leftover 2007. The other were creature comforts, lots more on the Dauntless. As far as ride and handling I thought they were pretty close. I give the Dauntless a slight edge for ride softness.

Has anyone figured out the difference in open deck area of the 190 compared to the 170?

Bo,

About 2 feet........ :-)

Take a look at these deck diagrams although not exactly to scale.

The 190 is in my opinion a lot bigger than the 170. I do find the 190 Montauk lacking in personality as compared to my classic 18. If I was going to get a Montauk 190, I'd opt for a classic 20 or better yet a 22. I know someone with a 2 year old Verado that needed a new trim unit and Mercury wouldn't honor the warranty because they said it was due to corrosion.

I bought a 2008 190 in late August 2009.
Nothing but good things to say thus far.
Mine has the fishing package, rear seat, and 135 V.
I added a Lowrance HDS5.

The open deck space of the 190 compared to the 17' Montauks, feels magnitudes larger. I own a 17, and I just launched a 190 this past spring. The difference is not so much in the length, but rather the 190 beam width. I just love the 190. You can view my 190 project over in the Project Albums on this website.

I bought my leftover 2007 Montauk 190 with 115HP in August, 2008. I'm still grinning ear to ear after over a year of mostly fishing on our large, windy and choppy Texas lakes. I've yet to find anything about the boat that I dislike.

I own both a 17' and the 19 montauk it's like comparing a midize car to a full size car .Much more room on the 19 athough I'm still very partial to my sakonnett. Lighter hull more blood and guts.
