I'm going to repower with the 2006 Mercury 60 EFI this week. I can't go with a two stroke due to lake restrictions here in So. Cal. , and I can't go any higher in HP due to my budget. Anyone else have this OB? I will post the performance results and pictures when finished.

I don't know what you are going to put it on but I have it on a 2006 150 Montauk and love it.

Tim,

I live in California myself.

As far as I know about California rules is that dirty 2 Strokes are not allowed on some lakes.
The new, CLEAN 2 Stroke made by Evinrude called the E-Tec is allowed. This engine conforms to the new CARB 3 emissions.
Even Lake Tahoe allows the new E-Tec 2 Stroke engines.
I don't know of any bodies of water in California that will not allow the 2 Stroke E-Tec but you might check with your local authorities just for peace of mind before you buy.

I don't believe the law states, NO 2 Strokes. I believe all they mention is that the engine(s) have to meet the new emission requirements for the state of California and the E-Tecs do meet the requirement.

Just another option if you wish to choose another engine besides a 4 Stroke.

Joe, your right. I just checked the DVL website. I mostly enjoy ocean fishing. I live right above the Diamond vally lake. I don't fish it, but would like to use it when I fine tune or make a change on my boat. Instead of finding out something does'nt work on the ocean.

Longboarder, a family friend of ours bought a 03'170 Montauk and chose to put a 60Hp Bigfoot motor on it. He uses it to go trolling to the FAD buoys which are about 10+ miles offshore Hawaiian waters. Its proven to be super reliable these past years for him with diligent maintainance and gets him out and back safely and on time. He also enjoys the extended gas mileage over the standard 90HP motor. I have an 06' 150 Montauk and I get about 1gph trolling between 4-6 knots in moderate ocean conditions with my 60HP. Top speed with 2 persons on board with 25gals of gas and fishing equipment I got 23.5 knots at 5000rpm. My motor has just under a 100 hrs on it and its works great.
