Well its baan a series of close calls and near misses for me but finally after 22 year i finally got another whaler. i got my first whaler which was a 1971 13 ft beauty when i was 12 years old. my dad bought it for me after an entire year of mowing the grass and doing odd chores around the house. i got alot of use out of it since we lived at ocean city md at the time. i loved that boat. then one horrible summer we had a hurrican come through and we were evacuated from our house and instructed to move inland about 50 miles. we moored my whaler and my dads mako since it was too dangerous to leave them at the docks and we hoped for the best. when we returned we found both boats along with about 8 others from our neighbors lost in the bay somewhere. we searched for a while and found my dads mako beached and almost sunk but never saw the lil 13 again. i was at the least heartbroken as you could imagine. i always said i wanted another whaler but never got a good deal. now here 24 years later i finally got her back. well not the original but close. i put my small bass boat for sale on craigslist about 3 weeks ago and a guy responded to the add and said he wanted it bad. he said he would buy it as soon as he sold his other boat. i asked him what kind of boat he was selling and guess what? it was a 1971 13 ft whaler. i was like man this is destiny. i told him why dont we trade even up cause we were both asking almost identical prices for both boats. he agreed and now i have my 1971 13 ft whaler back. i love it and am so excited about my find. im glad to find this site and you will be seeing alot of me. just wanted to share my story and say hello.

One of the best Whaler stories I've heard............Reminded me of our time here when hurricane HUGO came through our island and precious memories were gone forever.

I find it "Amazing" how we get so "Emotionally" attached to our Whalers, I guess it because, they last so long, we all have some great stories that we are proud of (and I love reading them). My boat was picked out one day by the USCG to assist in a "Rescue", it came through with flying colors, it was sobering and a bit frightening when I thought about it later. It made me realize how "SERIOUS" they were, when they designed these boats.

Hey Matt
Share the rescue with us if you don't mind. We would enjoy it I am sure.
