Hello and thanks for all the helpful comments and advice. I decided to purchase a 1990 Outrage from a broker in San Francisco. Just did the sea trial today and closed the deal. My wife and I love the boat...
I was leaning toward a new 150 Montauk, and then a 150 Sport but the Outrage really did it for me in the end. The previous owner (first and only) had it set up for Salmon fishing and had the 150 Merc Blackmax serviced by the same shop for the last 19 years. Compression is 130 psi with one cylinder running at 125. I'm going to have a service done this week to replace the impeller and general tune-up before I really stretch her legs. During the sea trial at 3200 rpm (three people, 20 knt winds) I made 37 mph and planed easily. The Outrage handled the chop in the San Francisco Bay effortlessly.
I'll post more pics when I get everything sorted out as she needs the wood re-varnished and a good wax job.

you can't go wrong with an Outrage. I had some friends offshore fishing just this weekend, and they were amazed at how well she rode, and how dry we stayed.

I had a mechanic survey the engine on my Outrage. Also, the previous owner had all the shop invoices for the past 19 years. The engine survey cost $150 and I don't regret it at all. I surveyed the hull myself by tapping with a plastic mallet. I have a fiberglass sailboat and I felt that I could ascertain the quality of the hull, at least enough to satisfy me.
If you have a doubt - do the survey. It can give you a moment of pause when making a big purchase and if something does come up, you have a solid argument for re-negotiating the price.

Congrats. I have a 1990 18 also. Water pump, plugs, inline fuel filter, thermostats & gaskets. etc are a good way to start with a new motor. New fuel lines, fuel filler line, vent line etc are good things to do if they are original.

WELCOME and you live on a great bay to do some real whalering if I may say so.
My sister lived in SF in the Marina district many years ago and I always enjoy being out on the West Coast.
Stay safe that (SF Bay) is some wild water at times.
