Guide boats are needed for the International Paddleboard Championships to be held atop San Francisco Bay on September 26. All Guide Boat related expenses for the day will be paid by the race organizers, the US Paddleboard Association. The race(s) will start at 7:30 in front of Acquatic Park and the last paddler should cross the start/finish line about 11:00ish. Guide boats are needed to keep the racers on track, watch for ships and ferries, ward off pleasure boaters, watch for sharks, etc, as well as be available in the event of an emergency to pull a paddler(s) from the water.
Guide boat captains and crews are invited to attend the after race party where all food and drink is compliments of USPBA.. Also, captains and crewmembers will each recieve a race goody bag which are typically filled with pretty cool stuff - shirt, bathing suit etc. There are also rooms available at the Argonaut. If you room with another captain the rooms will be paid for. If you would like to reserve a room for yourself the USPBA will pick up half the cost - rooms are about $230.00
I've had the opportunity to guide many races in my Montauk 17 and it's always been a interesting and fun experience.
100 feet of dock space has been secured for Guide Boats at South Beach Harbor from Friday afternoon September 25 to Sunday AM September 27. The area has 24 hour security with plenty of room for trailers and tow vehicles. South Beach harbor is about 10 minute boat ride from the race start/finish line.
We have five Guide Boats thus far and need an additional five boats. If you are interested in helping out please give me a call: 310.628.0829.
It's a fun day, one I'm sure you will enjoy.
Thanks everyone,
John
