I am looking to find a HIN number on a Boston Whaler V-20 Revenge. The aluminum plate is mostly rotted and is not legible. As far as i can tell the HIN number was on there. Does anyone know if there is another place on the boat to find the HIN number. Reason is that i am trying to buy the boat and register it and I don'y want to have any problems.. The gentleman that has the boat now i= not that reliable in the way of paper work. Please get back to me through this site or email me direct at hockfish@verizon.net.
Thank You,
Brian

You don't mention the year but take a look in the bow locker.
I have 2 HIN plates.
One on the outside of the transom and one in the bow locker on my 1985 Outrage 18'.

Thank You very much for that info I am going to look inside the cuddy for another plate. The first one i saw was to starboard of the helm and i did not see a second one. This is my first time on this site and I was exploring there are a lot of great things here. Oh, by the way does your HIN number state the year in which the boat was built as most other brands do?
Thanks
Brian

Joe,
The info that you shared was invaluable and helped me to locate a serial number. I do have one last question however, which is the number on the V-20 revenge is (8A0699) is there any way to find out the exact year of the boat?
Thanks Again,
Brian

That is the Stencil number of the hull as it came out of the mold.
The only way to find out any info from that number is to send an email directly to Boston Whaler.
I would be guessing if I said 1980 to 1982 model but that still doesn't give you the HIN number.
One more thing, you might be surprised what you can read with a magnifying glass and a flashlight on that old HIN plate.

Joe,
I have been reading all of your posts on this topic and I can not say thank you enough times. I am in the process of trading a 11ft achilles RIB for the revenge and I want to make sure that the boat is legal before i go through with the trade. Even up by the way. So thanks again.

According to the CFR (Code of Federal Regulations) part 33 section 181.29.
Two HIN numbers must be displayed on the boat hull.
The primary on the transom or starboard outboard side if boat does have a transom.
The duplicate HIN number in an unexposed location on the interior of the boat as under a fitting.
The second is in case the first number gets removed or destroyed as in the boat is stolen, a second backup can be used.

Wrangler, Do you know when that was enacted as I was told there was a second plate somewhere in our '83 Outrage but I couldn't find signs of any other than the original one on the transom?

The secondary "Hidden HIN" was not a requirement until after August of 1984. For Whalers, this mean only 1985 models or later will have a secondary HIN.
