this afternoon as a replacement for my ailing 1984 Evinrude. It looks like this engine might have become the Evinrude 90 as there is no longer a Johnson 90HP. Anything I should look at in particular? Will it Work on a 1984 Montauk?

Yes it will work on the Montauk. The motor will work with your existing binacle thottle control. You will need to get a new wiring harness if that isn't being provided with the motor.
