Hi folks - new to fishing, and new to the Boothbay region. Went out yesterday and caught a couple of mackerel on diamond jigs at the southern tip of Southport. Then tried for some stripers with those mack chunks and eel lures off the coast around the Ocean Point islands. Not a nibble, but my daughter snagged a lobster. Any pointers on good areas to hit a few stripers? Thanks!

I have caught stripers here on the left coast (bay area) If there is one thing I learned in all the years I have been fishing. [( If the fishee he hungry you catcha fishee... if the fishee he no hungry you no cathta fishee)]

Striper's are "Smart" evasive fish, if it does'nt look just like what they're feeding on, they won't touch it. I did see a good trick a few summer's ago while chasing a Blue fish pod in "Oyster Bay". Another Angler in a boat put a "Heavy" weighted "Bunker chunk" into the pod feeding on the surface, he yank's in a striper "Twice" to my two Blue fish. I asked about this and he shared with me that "The Striper's cruise with the Blue fish, they hang out underneath them and grab the scap's left over falling to the bottom". They're pretty smart for a fish. An Angler told me that they like to hang out by the light's of the bridge one night as I was leaving the boat, thought he was nut's, he bounced a "Buck tail" there and "WHAM", A NICE BIG FISH !

One good place is between Spruce Point Ledge and Negro Island. Other than that, keep an eye on where the commercial guys are going. 'Blackjack' seems to work inshore a lot. Just don't poach the spot while they're fishing it.

Thanks all. tedious, I've seen Blackjack at the dock (love the looks of that boat) and will try over at the Spruce Point ledge - thanks. I also just heard that there is action up in the Sheepscot/Kennebec rivers. I might try for a couple of hours tomorrow night after work - it is supposed to be our one good day of weather this week.

If you ever head towards Bath via the Sasanoa try this. When it is high tide we fish above the upper hells gates and at low tide below hells gates. occasionally we will catch them in Hockomock Bay. We simply use rubber shads from the Kennebec Angler in Bath. Also a nice place to stop for a beer or food is the Osprey Restaraunt in Georgetown, just look for all the sailboats. This is a nice safe ride.

Cool - thanks Rick - sounds great. On another forum someone also mentioned Hockamock Bay at the crossroads between the Sasanoa/Back Rivers, as well as Goose Rock Passage up to Lower Hell Gate on the Sheepscot.
