I am about to remove my Merc V6 150 from my stern section.
I have gotten some of my best braided ropes already wrapped and cinched surrounding the head of the engine.
The cowling was removed to prevent possible damage.
I will be using my long forked hydraulic "car Jack" to lift the 406LBS engine from the soon to be repaired stern areas.
I have looked for an area to install a screw on "Eye" to properly anchor the lifting hook but drew a blank.
How did you anchor your unit for removal?

Mercury makes a lifting eye that threads onto the flywheel. Part # 91-90455-1
This part is readily available from numerous sources. Here is one:

I did not use a lifting eye when I pulled mine. Be very careful as it will shift and want to spin. There were two of us, I got to lean on the lower unit while the other person moved the boat, and backed up the truck we were loading it into. If you can get the lifting eye, it's a lot safer and properly balanced

Use the lifting eye that screws to the flywheel! You can also make one from some plate steel as we did if you can't find one.

The part never did come in.
I did remove the outboard using my tie up lines.
I will still be shopping for the part in question.

I`ve got one I haven`t used in years, In fact only used once. I don`t mess with big Mercs and don`t need it $25 plus freight.

Thanks,
The part finally came in.
I had to pay $65 though...
Got to love all that TAX that we pay here.
