Thread subject: Whaler Central - Boston Whaler Boat Information and Photos :: PB Blaster instead of deep creep?

Hey guys. So I went down to advanced today, was planning on getting some deep creep in order to give my dying motor a fighting chance, but they were out of it, and recommended this Blaster (PB50 All Purpose). From what I understand its the same type of thing just wanted to make sure before I go spraying it in the cyls. And so am I Spraying the hell out of it with the motor tilted up, and then moving the flywheel and the pistons and such in order to try and help it get back to the rings? And how long do I put it in for, and do I need to be careful not to use too much? Thanks in advance, and If you're not up to date with the fiasco that is my motor its the 1979 evinrude no balls overheating post.

Heck yeah Sean, we remember. When you put "no balls" in the subject header everyone looks at it at least once!

I don't know much about PB Blaster. I tried it on my drill motor switch, it made it worse, not better. I tried it on some corroded bolts and it didn't do anything.

Lucas Oil Treatment can make short work of carbon and varnish deposits on rings, injectors, etc. I've used it a couple of times with good results. You might consider trying that since it's designed specifically for the job.

pour some sea foam in there that is a great deposit cleaner for any engine.

PB Blaster is pretty good for corroded bolts, etc. but I'd also recommend Sea Foam for any engine deposits. Advance Auto should have that also.

find some deep creek and sea foam. Run the engine on sea foam and then spray deep creek into the cylinders. let it sit overnight and crank the engine over. Be prepared for a lot of smoke as the carbon burns off.

I used Sea Foam on a healthy but used 22R (Toyota) and thought it worked real well.

ok cool thanks. i got some deep creep today. I have the heads currently off, so should i put them back on and run the motor w sea foam first or can i take advantage of the heads being off in order to make sure i get it down to the rings?

on another note, I was inspecting the chewed up head and realized that this one spot that i thought was just REALLY chewed up, was actually an embedded piece of metal of some sort. So I'm thinking that is what caused the damage, and that the porcelain from the plug broke after being impacted by this foreign object, and then turned to dust in the mashing mayhem that was taking place between the head, the object and the piston....

So now my question is: where did this now mangled and unidentifiable chunk of metal come from?

Keep the heads off and work the Deep Creep down as far as you can to the rings by wiggling the piston, etc, for each cyl. You can also turn the flywheel manually to help too. Once you get it all back together and running, you can add the Sea Foam to the first tank.

As far as what the mystery metal is, first thing to check would be an intake box reed.

Pull the chunk's out with pliers, don't worry about the head, they can take brutal chewing and still work. Find out where the metal came from, ya doin "Great", stay on it Kid !

I'm with Dave and Matt here. Unless you have a piece of piston or spark plug missing, the foreign metal had to come through the intake or exhaust port. Not sure where else it could come from. There's a small amount of backflow through the exhaust port every cycle but I doubt it is enough to "suck" metal back in. So you should probably start looking upstream from the intake port.

ok i'll do that this afternoon. do i need to pull her all appart to look at the intake port? i gotta look at a diagram to see whats goin on. thanks again guys.
