Thread subject: Whaler Central - Boston Whaler Boat Information and Photos :: Block for 235

As mentioned in another thread, I had an overheat situation with my '83 Evinrude 235 - the result being that the aluminum head is pulling away from one of the cylinders. I've filled it with JB Weld for the moment, but I know that the motor is now on its way out - nothing can be done for it.
Does anyone know of anywhere I can buy a head for this motor? Not rebuilt - I should be able to use the other parts, and anyway, if I do use all new parts, I'd like to learn how to do it myself. So just the head.
Thanks,
Clive

Clive,
You surely have circulation problems that are causing the overheating. Replacing the head without correcting the clog will be a lot of wasted work.

Might be more economical in the long run to replace the engine with a good used one, prices are certainly down right cheap right now. Find a newer OMC, and keep all your controls, ect.

May want to check this resource:
http://www.maxrules.com/fixomcrph3.htmlcrph3.html
Doesn't have a 235 listed powerhead listed, but says to contact him and he will quote you price and availability time. Don't know anything else about the place.

Ah, sorry, just realized you wanted a single head, and not a powerhead. Still may want to check...

Excellent feedback - many thanks. Mike, yes, I know what happened - a stuck thermostat. All this for a $20 part.
