Looking for opinions from the "experts" here at WC. I have a 17' Montauk with a 90 hp Johnson. Looking for an outboard to use for Big Lake trolling. Any input on the size of trolling motor the crew here would go for?
There are quite a few available in this area and the $ seem reasonable.. cast your Vote

I have used an 8 hp on my prior Montauk, prior Outrage 17' II and my current Outrage 18'.

I have also installed the same setup on another Montauk.

The kicker motor needs to be a 20 inch long shaft mounted directly on the transom.

My Montauk came with a 6 HP, and it does fine. It can be linked to the main outboard, so that it can be steered with the wheel. There are pictures of the linkage set-up on my personal page.

How about electrics... They have their place although a really small place with BW community...:-)

I will getting a 4 stroke 6HP and already have a custom bracket to mount it on... Mounting directly on the transom wasn't going to work for me on my 17. My stern light is on the starboard side and swim platform on the port...
