Thread subject: Whaler Central - Boston Whaler Boat Information and Photos :: My new 225 Yamaha 4 stroke

Picked up my boat late Thursday with a new 225 Yamaha four stroke. Spent Friday afternoon doing the 2k rpm and 3k rpm break in. By Sunday afternoon logged 8hrs on the new motor. Used about a third of a tank of fuel. Big difference from the Thristy 235.
Very quiet at idle and has a powerful growl underway, but still very quiet. Most of the noise is wind and waves. Quick to plane, sits about an inch lower at rest due to the weight of the 4 stroke.

Congrats Clemson! I have an '05 225, and put my first 3-4 hours on her the past two days. Purrs like a kitten - she only has 25 hrs total. I think my rough calculation shows I used about 7-8 gph overall. This included all the various speeds from puttering through harbors up to WOT 5500 rpm with 6 folks on board (34 gps mph), but mostly cruising around 4200 rpm. I only have the speedo and tach. It would be nice to have the fuel management gauge as well.

I feel your pride! Congrats.
I'm in my first year with a 98 115HP V4 2 stroke Yamaha and am starting to dream about the 4 stroke.
Ahhh, you probably can't hear me, my motors running (:-)

Per his personal page it looks like a 1985 22 Outrage.

Clemson, I repowered a 1988 22ft outrage I purchased last summer and restored with a new Yamaha 225 (four stroke). It has been great. Having a little problem getting my GPS to communicate speed to Command Link. I live in Greenvile, SC but have the boat in Georgetown. 86 Montauk on Hartwell also.

Clem,
What did you do with the old 235? The was the exact same boat and motor combo I had.

Me too ('84 22' Outrage with Cuddy, with an '83 235); however, I appear to have fried the 235 in an overheat situation on my first outing since restoring the boat two weekends ago. Am hoping JB Weld will hold it together for the remainder of the season - a new motor is not in the budget for the time being.
