Has anyone else toyed with the idea of crafting a live well pump pick up that utilizes the lowest drain tube on a Montauk? I realize I would lose the ability to drain the sump by pulling the plug but it seems it would be a lot cleaner than an unsightly transom mounted bait tank pump. Just a thought.

It can be done. but takes some glass work. look at my personal page... hole placement for thru hull transducer and you can sea for your self. it dose not have to go in the same spot. I have seen them in the deck also.

I was thinking that a thru-hull could be placed in the current drain tube with a strainer on the outside. That way, if it didn't work out, you could just remove the thru-hull and keep the brass drain tube. Maybe I'm overlooking something, though.

I have never seen it done that way before. If you do it I sure would like to see some pictures, of how it worked out for you. Just a question what do you do if you take one over the bow and fill the boat with water, and no plug to pull?

I already have a sump bilge in place now thus eliminating the "need" for a drain plug. The sump bilge is far enough up the wiring trough so as to not interfere with another bait tank pump.
