I plan on connecting the kicker soon. Found a nice 2000 Evinrude 9.9 4-stroke. Was looking for a 6-8hp 2-stroke Johnson, but the
VERY LOW price on this motor, not to mention it was exclusively used in fresh water, made it a no-brainer. I ordered the dual binnacle, wiring harness and dual key switch from BRP. Now all I need are the control cables. Is there any cable better than the next? I read in an article Joe did and he stated he used 18' cables. Are 19' a better choice? I've seen a few different types of cables, any recommendations?

Teleflex cables.
The 18' cables are what is needed for the main engine.
I also used 18' cables for the kicker mounted on the port side.
I think 19' cables might be slightly better for the kicker but I have no problems with the 18' cables. This may also depend on what side of the engine the cables go into.
My main motor and kicker has the cables going into the starboard side of each engine.

You can buy the regular teleflex cables in 1 foot increments. example: 17, 18, 19, 20, for about $22.00 each
The teleflex extreme cables only come in 2 foot increments. example: 16, 18, 20, for about $50 each

Thanks Joe. My cables go into the starboard side as well. Is there a big difference between the Reg Teleflex and the extreme's?

I have never owned the more expensive Extreme cables so I don't know...

Maybe someone out there has tried the Teleflex extreme cables?
