I have a 96 Evinrude 9.9, 4 stroke that I am considering as a trolling motor for my 1966 Sakonnet. Main power is an 87 Yamaha 70hp. My concern is whether the 9.9, at approx 100 lbs, is too much addt'l weight on the transom. Thanks for any help.

Gerry,
Clamp the motor on the transom and see how it sits in the water.
The motor should be a 20 inch long shaft to be able to clamp (or eventually bolt) it right on the transom.
My 8 hp Evinrude weighs 53 pounds.

Thanks, Joe. The 9.9/ 4 stroke weighs in at 96 lbs. I will try clamping it onto the transom, hadn't thought of that. Boat is now in the process of rejuvenating, not restoration. Hopefully, I will be able to wet the bottom by late summer or early fall.
