I am looking at a kicker for my 17 montauk and i am wondering if 4hp is enough to work as a trolling motor and emergency back up? Any thoughts.

I would suggest a 6 or 8 hp...

That is great, i think i am going to go with an 8hp it was just a killer deal on the 4hp. It is a 20" shaft so i am looking for a way to mount it. What recommendatiosn do you all have? straight to Transom or mount, what are my options?

Straight on the transom for a Classic Montauk up until 2002...

Same type of installation on an Outrage too.

Dual engine controls also makes it easy to control the kicker.
