While dropping my boat off at a local place to soda blast the bottom paint off, I saw a small marina on a local lake. They happened to be an E-tec dealer so I stopped in to "browse". I was talking to the owner about installing a kicker on my boat when he stated he had a few small motors. We walked into the shop and he showed me a 2000 Evinrude 9.9 4-stroke long shaft. It was a clean fresh water motor that was used occasionally for $500. Well, the price sounded great, so I put a deposit on it. I will going back to hear it run on Thursday. It has been some wild time locating the right kicker. Had a bead on a 1999 Johnson 8hp 2-stroke (matched the main motor) but the guy was in Va and he wanted $1000. Not to mention I think he was a fraud. The 9.9 seems like a good deal. Anyone know much about these motors? I might be wrong, but didn't Suzuki make these for OMC?

No, in 2000 Evinrude made those four strokes. They were OMC's own design and built in both Hong Kong and Belgium.
