I need help finding an outrigger setup. I have a Boston Whaler Montauk 17' and I use it on a freshwater lake in North Carolina. There are lake trout in the lake at about 40 foot depth. I would like to find an Outrigger setup that I can put on my boat so I can fish for these trout. Does anyone know where I can find an outrigger setup that is designed for a Boston Whaler Montauk? I appreciate any help you can give me. thanks

Not sure if you need 'outriggers' Dave, sounds like you need a 'downrigger' ?...........Essentially a large reel spooled with braided steel line, attached to a lead ball, The reel has a depth counter to target the fish's depth. Other than that it works like an outrigger with an outrigger clip on top of the ball, the fishing line is trolled behind the ball and releases with the strike. A LOT better set-up than usuing planers...............
I have one on my 17 and it made all the difference in the world in my catch, but I fish saltwater.
If this sounds like what you are looking for I could put a few pics of the set-up on my personal page............

Dave,
Down riggers are the way to go for the application which you described.

Dave , if you look at my montauk on my Ppage you will see a bracket on the side rails that hold the downriggers. Also you may want to check Anytimefishing.com this is a site for fishing Jocassee in SC that will have plenty of info on the subject. BG
