I have a 1999 Johnson 150 main motor. I am looking for a kicker engine but need to be able to connect to a dual binnicle. I know some engines cannot accept controls. Is anyone familiar with connecting different manufactures to a dual binnicle? Which engines can I use? Will Yamaha, Mercury, ect work? I am looking in the 6-8 hp range. I have seen a Johnson 6 hp motor, but the guy is asking $1000 for a 1999 6 hp 2-stroke. It has low hrs and clean but $1000 seems a bit high.

I agree I think that is high, considering that you can buy a new 6HP 4 stroke for under $1400... I am thinking about the Nissan/Merc but they are only a single cylinder. I saw one of these run on a sail boat and it ran much smoother that I expected for a single... Also under 60 lbs.

Jon, my main concern is whether I can hook up any other motor to a dual binnicle. I would perfer a 4-stroke as I can share the same fuel with the main motor. I have seen a two 9.9 4-stroke Johnson's on ebay. Not sure how good these motors are.

It depends on which dual binnacle you have.
The last 2 versions of OMC/BRP dual binnacles have options to either push or pull the control cables allowing connections to other brands of outboard motors.

Personally, I would go with the matching 1999 Johnson 6 hp engine....
Matching engines look much better to my eyes than non matching engines...

You can always add the AccuMix to the Johnson kicker so you can use straight gas from your main tank.

Joe, I have a OMC single binnacle now. i plan on converting to a dual. How much is the accu-mix system?

I would check with your BRP dealer for the cost of the AccuMix.

I remember $100 to $150 new but I have also seen them new on eBay for around $50....

You will need the 1996 or newer dual binnacle so you can operate other outboard motors with this control should you choose a different brand than OMC...

Just called my local BRP dealer. The accu-mix setup is $275. I think he intends to put an inground pool in his back yard this year or send 3 kids to college. Either way I think I'll wait for one to pop up on ebay.
