I've noticed that all older 13' Sport models I've seen or looked at the bow hatch is missing or beat up? I was wondering why no one has mounted the hatch or hinged it with a lock latch? I have a 1980 13" sport and I just purchased new bow hatch because previous owner lost his and I wanted to install stainless steel hinges with a lockable latch on the front? Anyone give me any reason I shouldn't do this?

Mount the hinges forward and you won't need a latch..........Mine is different than yours, but I put velcro opposite from the hinges and it keeps it from bouncing up and down in rough water

no reason I could see. remember there is only fiberglass(no wood) so you might want to use one of the many methods on anchoring the screws.

Take a look at my method.

I also put some cream colored gasket material down on the port and starboard sides on top of the inner lip of the hatch. looks like stuff that would go around windows, etc. (Where the hatch rests.) This keeps the bouncing down to zero, and provides a little resistance to engage the latch.
