Thread subject: Whaler Central - Boston Whaler Boat Information and Photos :: low fluid in compass

The original Ritchie compass on my 78 Montauk is low on fluid and the needle bounces all over the place while motoring around. How hard is it to refill the fluid? From what I've found it should be filled with odorless mineral spirits? I'm also not sure how the compass is mounted (adhesive, screws) so any info regarding this would be helpful too.

Thanks,
Tony

You need to drain and re-fill the fluid.

Note the type to be used on page 0-4 of this document Link to Ritchie Service Manual General Instructions

Since you don't say which model you have, visit Ritchie's Service site and select the model to see the parts diagrams.

If you prefer, there is a service location for Richie listed in Houston here

It's a red compass. I'm not sure the exact model. I'll take a look when I get home and then go through the stuff you posted. Thanks for the reply.

I've done it following Rithies instructions and as scary as it appeared at first, it worked without a glitch
