I need to swap out my Merc top mount control (15' CC) for a similar control to work with a 1992 Nissan 90. I want to stay with a single handle throttle/shift unit with tilt/trim switch. I also hate to put big bucks into this setup. I bought the engine for a song and I'm trying to keep the cost down since my lovely wife keeps saying things like "We had a perfectly good motor. . . " (Honey-dos are keeping her at bay for the moment.)

I'm looking at the Morse MN (314302). Does anyone have experience with it? It's Morse but I wonder if it might be a lower-end Morse - on sale from ~$300 to $135. That makes me think it's either discontinued, or low quality, or overstocked, or something like that. Or am I spittin' in the wind and any Morse will be a good unit?

Any advice appreciated. Or if you have a similar used control for sale that would be awesome too.

thanks,
theo

So no one here has any experience with Morse controls?

I do.

I did a 30 minute web search and the two sites that had it showed it out of stock. I think it is discontinued since it is not on Teleflex's site.

Have you considered the SL-3?

Found a decent price at Jamestown Distributors. Link

Hey thanks Phil. I found the MN at Fore and Aft Marine in Florida (via Google). http://www.foreandaftmarine.com/index.../index.htm They also list the SL-3 and for a little less money than Jamestown Distributors. The SL-3 has a more modern look I guess, and I like the chrome option, but the MN is a hundred bucks less. Tough choice for me.

I emailed Fore and Aft with a couple questions about availability. Will post back here when I hear from them. In the meantime, do you (or anyone else) think the MN is a bad bet?

thanks,
ted
