Last night my wife and daughter went to the Taylor Swift concert so my I took my son to dinner by way of the Montauk. In our area, their are several restaurants on the water. We docked at the riverfront and walked across the street for a fried seafood dinner.

Anyway, their were several boats on the water. It was packed with every boat you could think of, except were were the only whaler. I've only noticed 2 other whalers on this particular waterway over the past few years.

It got me thinking about a Louisiana whaler gathering. Do we have enough Louisiana members to do something like this? Of course, I would welcome anyone else who would care to join in. I just thought it could be fun. Anyone interested?????

I was stationed in Baton Rouge from 1994-1998. I had the only whaler on the Tickfaw, Amite, the madisonville area, Lake Maurepas and the BR area of the Mississippi When I was there. I never saw another whaler the whole time. I think the nearest dealer was in Houma.

Wrangler:

What a small world. The Tickfaw and Madisonville are my stomping grounds. My son and I ate at Friends Restaurant in Madisonville Saturday night.

I always thought the closest dealer was in Bay Saint Louis.

Looks like I might be the only participant in a Louisiana Rendezvous. I guess a vote for chapter president wouldn't be necessary.....

nv-
Would love to join you if I could. Actually spent my teenage years in the Madisonville area. All I had then was my old Sears 10 ft Jon boat w/2 oars. Still have it too.

I lived in McComb in 1989 - 92. I would pull my 17' Whaler down to Tikfaw. Loved crusing the river down to the lake! Now I live on the Miss Gulf Coast and just completed a 15' Sport restoration. I would love to come back to the Tikfaw area for a redezvous. I posted a Rendezvous listing for Mississippi on the "Rendezvous Central Map" but got no takers. Maybe you will have more luck in La.
Good Luck, I am sure you could make it happen.

Hey Paul:

We might have to make it a Gulf Coast gathering to get enough takers. I'll work on it and let you know.

I live in Metairie and I take mine out in the lake sometimes. Right now the boat is spending some down-time though because the power trim motor went out. Hopefully I'll get it replaced soon though because I am ready to do some fishing!!

Hello NVACCARO You sound like you are from the Madisonville area. I lived in Covington in the 70's and Madisonville in the 80's . Moved to Baton Rouge in 94. I have been restoring a 1970 Eastport and am finally starting sea trials. Have just recieved boat from a local Mechanic because of a problem with mataining no wake speed ( it would kill if not running in gear at least 1800 rpm). Mechanic rebuilt carbs and said every thing is fine. Hope to test this Saturday In the Amite. If all goes well I may be able to attend a trip. I watch the Regional area of this site close hoping to someday to be able to make a rendezvous and maybe be part of the start of a local group. I have been on three sea trials so far and have issues to correct, such as the first one was the previous owner had the steering connected backwards that was a fun trip at the dock. I have also noticed another problem that I don't think I can fix I call it dock delay. It never fails that as soon as one group of admirers leave another walks up. But that is kind of a nice problem, althow It makes the afore mentioned problems all the more embarassing. Anyway I will be watching the rendezvous area close and hopefully as of this Saturday I will be ready. And If I can get some help from my wife or son with this darn computer stuff I can post a personal page to show everyone.

Hey Tharsheblows:

You guessed it, I'm from Covington. I grew up here. I can't wait to see some pics of your whaler. I know what you mean about the fans at the piers, however, I guess it just comes with the territory of owning the best boat ever made.

I am about to start building a house for a client in the Walnut Hills area of Baton Rouge. I'll be on the lookout for a whaler in tow. Good luck with the repairs.

I'll keep you posted if we get a gathering together. Meanwhile, shoot me an email if you need some help with the whaler or if you have any questions; I'll try to help.
