Thread subject: Whaler Central - Boston Whaler Boat Information and Photos :: Rear seats- Montauk 17

I originally started looking for a Newport 17 because they looked more comfortable for those of us who don't fish alot, but they are hard to find here on Long Island. Plenty of Montauks though. Any thoughts on how to make a Montauk more comfortable for a couple passengers? I've seen some with a rear cushioned seat; any idea where to get something like that?

Thanks.

Talk to Anderson Mfg, I had one made last year....they are pricey but worth every penny. Look on the sponsors section, I believe their website is amui.org

Whalersal just posted one for sale for $600, it would be a good deal for you, especially if he includes all the mounting hardware. THe seat new is about $1100 and the hardware is easily another $100

Thanks for the plug.

The seat is in decent condition, although it is 15 years old. Some of the upholsetry is not perfect to be sure. It does look nicer than my ad shows, as I cleaned it quite a bit. You ca email me at whalersal at aol dot com if you like. Thanks.

I am also looking for a rear seat for my Montauk and was convinced I would have to draw plans to make one. Just today though I found that Nautical Lumber, which is a current sponsor on Whaler Central makes a very nice seat for this boat. Mike, the owner, will talk to you about what you want and has a couple of seats to fit the Montauk. One is a seat with a back rest and the other is a thicker material casting platform which will double as a seat and he will put the back rest on it. His seats are not upholstered but it would be simple and preferrable to me to have a removable upholstered cushion made to fit...much like I did for my 13 seat. BTW...his prices seem very reasonable.
